Happy New Year! It is the first day of 2011 and micromoco is ready to go....$1 down, 364 to go!

The first donation recipient is Room to Read. 

Why Room to Read?

• 4.1 million children benefitted so far: 1,129 schools, 10,000 libraries, 441 books published, 8 million books distributed, 10,042 girls' scholarships
• Seeks to transform the lives of children in developing countries by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education.
• 4 programs: Reading Room (establish libraries), School Room (build schools), Local Language Publishing (publish children's books by local writers in local language), Girl's Education (provide support so girls can complete secondary education)
• Where: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri  Lanka, Vietnam, South Africa, and Zambia. 

There is a great book, Leaving Microsoft to Change the World, that tells the story behind Room to Read.
